How to Cook Sockeye Salmon?

Sockeye salmon is a species of salmon that is found primarily in the northern Pacific Ocean. Its flesh has a bright red color when raw, making it simple to identify among the (often orange) salmon kinds at your local seafood shop.

Sockeye salmon is slightly oilier than other salmon varieties, which means it's high in omega-3 fatty acids (great for your heart!). People who appreciate salmon will most likely enjoy this variety of salmon because of its rich flavor. As previously stated, there is no wrong way to cook sockeye salmon, but my favorite method is to bake it. First, I bake it for 8 minutes at 400 degrees. The fish will be almost fully cooked as a result of this. Then I'll change the oven setting to BROIL and cook it for another 3 to 5 minutes under the broiler.

This is because I like my sockeye salmon to have a gorgeous golden-brown top. The fish will also finish cooking entirely under the broiler. I recommend investing in an excellent instant-read thermometer so you can make sure the salmon's interior temperature is at least 145 degrees F.

The ingredients for cooking sockeye salmon are simple:

  • sockeye salmon  
  • lemon juice and zest
  • fresh rosemary
  • fresh thyme
  • salt and pepper
  • olive oil

What to serve on the side?

Balsamic asparagus with cheese would be a delicious combo of salmon and asparagus for me. A superb green salad with homemade miso dressing or citrus salad dressing is always a winner. 

Other significant side dishes are:

  • Butternut squash noodles.
  • Greek mashed potatoes.
  • Roasted radicchio wedge salad.
  • Air-fried brussels sprouts.
